Electrical substation fire – Maida Vale


Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters have attended a fire at an electrical substation on Aberdeen Place in Maida Vale.

Firefighters discovered an electrical transformer that was alight. Although this fire is now under control, firefighters are continuing to work to fully extinguish it. 

Around 100 people have been evacuated from surrounding buildings and a rest centre has been set up by the local authority. Fortunately there have been no reports of any injuries at this time and we continue to offer support to those affected.

Rest centres

We have two rest centres open for residents who may need somewhere to go.

Tea and coffee will be provided.

Wharncliffe Gardens Community Centre: Birch Vale Court, Pollitt Dr, London NW8 8JF

Council officers are on the ground offering support.

Road closures

Please be aware of the following road closures:

  • St John’s Wood Road Junction with Cunningham Road
  • Aberdeen Place Junction with Northwick Terrace
