Sabrina Carpenter Shares Alternate Album Cover ‘Approved By God’

Sabrina Carpenter is back with options.

On Wednesday, the Grammy-winning artist unveiled an alternate choice of cover art for her upcoming “Man’s Best Friend” album, due out Aug. 29. This version is a black and white photograph of Carpenter laying her head on a suited man’s shoulder, with other men slightly visible in the distance. It’s significantly less R-rated than the original, which had Carpenter on her hands and knees with someone in a suit grabbing her by the hair.

The original, shot by Bryce Anderson, drew a lot of attention and controversy, with many critiquing the image as a provocative and degrading towards women. It was revealed alongside another image, which shows a dog collar with the album title. Others defended her artistic choice as commentary on power dynamics. Or simply, as one viral post put it: “Let women be horny.”

Carpenter hasn’t addressed the criticism directly, but made a slight nod to it in her announcement for the alternative cover (also shot by Anderson), writing “and here is a new alternate cover approved by God.” The singer signed a batch of alternate copies and is selling them on her website as a unique opaque black and white disc.

Also on Wednesday, Carpenter revealed her second drink collaboration with Dunkin’ Donuts — Sabrina’s Strawberry Daydream Refresher. To introduce the new drink, Dunkin’ partnered with photographer and director Nadia Lee Cohen, for an ad titled “Dunkin’ Daydream Hotline,” which shows Carpenter as a flirty “Daydream Matchmaker,” answering a call from a late-night caller in a vintage hotline-style setting.
