David Lloyd Leisure unveils latest plans for new Nantwich complex

Health and fitness giant David Lloyd Leisure has unveiled more detailed plans for its new club in Nantwich.

The firm, Europe’s leading health, fitness and wellness group, is proposing a new David Lloyd Club on land off Newcastle Road, between Cheerbrook roundabout and Vagrants social club.

It would include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym and exercise studios, and tennis, badminton, padel and pickleball facilities.

There will also be a luxury spa retreat and spa gardens.

Advised by planning consultants Lichfields, David Lloyd Leisure has submitted a planning application to Cheshire East Council.

If approved, it could be open in 2027.

We first revealed in February last year the company’s plans after acquiring land off Newcastle Road.

The company says it will around 60 local jobs during construction and 80-100 jobs once open.

And it has vowed to make the new club with the latest “sustainability” technology to ensure it operates as efficiently as possible as it aims to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Bosses say they have made “several amendments to the plans” to include a new footpath and cycleway links with the Crewe Vagrants site next door to ensure easy pedestrian and cycling access.

Stuart Caswell, new clubs acquisition director at David Lloyd Leisure, told Nantwich News: “Over the last 18 months we have worked in close consultation with the planning authorities and have listened carefully to the views of local residents, and we believe we have developed proposals that will be hugely beneficial for the Nantwich community.

“Our plan is to construct a state-of-the-art health and wellness Club that not only enhances the area and creates a range of new jobs and opportunities for the local community, but also reflects the needs of people living in the area.”

The plans will also feature a stylish clubroom for members to meet with friends and enjoy meals, as well as large spaces to work, relax and socialise.

There will also be facilities for children including a soft play, and spaces for after-school and holiday clubs, offering fun and active childcare solutions for parents outside of school hours.

In addition to match-quality tennis courts, the club will offer the latest racquet sport to take the UK by storm – padel.

The company added: “The group is committed to creating positive communities both inside and outside of its clubs and plans to explore opportunities to develop local community partnerships.”
