The Daily Record has claimed that bidding for Cyriel Dessers will START at £5m!
After scoring in the five post split SPFL fixtures after Celtic clinched the SPFL title the Ibrox ace has suddenly become one of the hottest scoring strikers in Europe.
When it matters Dessers is nowhere to be seen, in the League Cup Final in December he let Ridvan Yilmaz and Jack Butland take penalties while he played at hide and seek in the centre circle.
Following that he was booed on as a substitute in his next match but in line with the ‘takeover’ narrative he is in demand and the source of interest from across the globe.
It is no surprise that the messengers have selected Jack Butland, James Tavernier and Dessers to kick start the yearned for ‘player trading model’ that will swell Russell Martin’s transfer war-chest
Dessers is one of the highest earners at the club, signing a four year contract when he arrived from Cremonese as part of the Micky Beale Revolution!
In trademark style the Record claims:
Greek Giants AEK are preparing to push the boat out to land Rangers hitman Cyriel Dessers.
The enigmatic Ibrox striker has blasted 51 goals in two years in Glasgow but remains a divisive figure among the Light Blue legions.
Now Record Sport understands AEK are keen to offer him a fresh start in the Greek capital – and are willing to spend big.
The Yellow and Blacks were taken over by shipping magnate Marios Iliopoulos last year and he’s determined to make a statement signing this summer.
They’ve identified Gers’ 30-year-old Nigeria international as the man they want to spearhead their big push to recapture the Super League title they last won in 2023.
But they will likely have to start the bidding at the £5million mark as Rangers’ new American owners prepare to dig their heels in.
Last summer five of Dessers’ team-mates were sold for a collective £810,000. Despite the best efforts of the Record with a £20m price tag or a demand for Dembele Dollars the highest bid made for Alfredo Morelos was for £3.5m.
Clubs know the desperation at Ibrox to shift their high earners, turning 31 in December getting him off the wage bill would allow an offer to go in for Lawrence Shankland who has been waiting on a certain phone call all through the summer.
