O’Rourke updates today with Nunez set to leave

Victor Osimhen is on the radar of a number of European clubs including Liverpool after his proposed move to Al-Hilal fell through.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what Anfield sources have told him about the 26-year-old’s most likely destination as he prepares for a move away from Napoli.

Liverpool are planning to sell Darwin Nunez this summer, which would open the door for the addition of a new centre-forward into Arne Slot’s side.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in April that Man United and Chelsea have looked at Osimhen among their targets.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, would “love” to sign the Nigerian on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell, while he is keen to remain in Europe.

As things stand, his future remains up in the air while the race for his signature remains open.

Liverpool are considering a move to sign Victor Osimhen

Football Insider revealed on 6 June that Liverpool expect Nunez to leave Anfield as they seek an upgrade in the centre-forward role.

Osimhen is one name on their list of targets as he is set to leave Napoli this summer, but there has been no movement towards an official offer as things stand.

O’Rourke explained that a number of clubs are set to compete for his signature, with Slot’s side potentially among them, as a result of his high reputation.

Victor Osimhen is going into his final year at Napoli,” he told Football Insider.

“Galatasaray would love to sign him on a permanent basis if possible and Napoli would prefer to cash in rather than let him run down his contract.

“Al-Hilal made numerous offers for Osimhen but it seems the player himself would prefer to stay in Europe.

“Liverpool have been linked with Osimhen as a potential target, especially if Darwin Nunez was to leave this summer which seems more and more likely.

“He’s on the list of a number of clubs due to his contract situation at Napoli.

“Manchester United are also looking at Osimhen as they looked to bring in a new number nine.

“His future is up in the air and it’s a pretty open race for his signature as well.”

Anthony Gordon update emerges at Anfield

Much of Liverpool’s transfer business may depend on outgoing deals, with Nunez opening the door for Osimhen, and Luis Diaz’s sale could see them bring in a winger.

Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Liverpool will target Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon if Diaz is allowed to leave, and will have to pay £75-80million for his signature.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 May that Gordon is still on Arne Slot’s radar as Liverpool are prepared to reignite their interest.

Newcastle remain determined to keep hold of their star man, and it would take a “huge” fee to persuade them to sell while the deal has been described as “difficult”.
