‘Liverpool’s move for Hugo Ekitike hinges on outcome of transfer dilemma’

Liverpool are interested in Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, but the Reds need to sort out a transfer problem of their own before they can make a move for the 22-year-old.

Arne Slot is adding yet more quality to his squad this summer, as the Merseyside club look to defend their Premier League title next season.

The Reds finished 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal in the 2024/25 campaign, as they wrapped up the league with four games to spare.

However, Liverpool are not resting on their laurels, and it is set to be a busy transfer window at Anfield, with a number of incomings and outgoings.

Liverpool must sell before moving for Ekitike

Liverpool are interested in Ekitike, but would likely have to pay upwards of £84million to secure his services.

The forward impressed in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 15 goals and picking up eight assists as Frankfurt finished third.

According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, for Liverpool to sign Ekitike they first need to sell one of the attacking players in their squad.

The Reds are still in the race for the 22-year-old, but need to move on the likes of Federico Chiesa, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota if they are to bring him in.

Liverpool had already confirmed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and the Reds are in advanced talks over two more incomings.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is set to join the Reds, with it reportedly costing the Merseyside club £45m to bring the left-back to Anfield.

Kerkez had an exceptional season for the Cherries, scoring two goals and picking up six assists as he started every single game for Andoni Iraola’s side in the Premier League.

Also, Liverpool have had multiple offers rejected for Florian Wirtz, with Leverkusen standing firm on their £126m valuation of the midfielder.

However, it is expected that the two clubs will be able to come to an agreement in the near future, with the German midfielder very keen on the move.
