Spain vs France predictions
There was French success on German soil in the Champions League final last weekend but the national team may struggle to emulate Paris St-Germain when they face Spain in their Nations League semi-final in Stuttgart.
Five triumphant PSG players have been called up by France coach Didier Deschamps, whose squad also includes Marcus Thuram and Benjamin Pavard of runners-up Inter.
Even if Deschamps chooses to keep his Champions League final representatives on the bench, France could line up with a tasty front three of Kylian Mbappe, Randal Kolo Muani and Michael Olise.
But Les Bleus have some significant injury absentees in defence, including Arsenal centre-back William Saliba, and Spain should be backed to win in 90 minutes.
La Roja have developed into a winning machine under coach Luis de la Fuente and they ended France’s hopes of Euro 2024 glory at the semi-final stage.
Spain responded superbly after falling behind to a ninth-minute Kolo Muani header and, less than 15 minutes later, they led 2-1 thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo.
Having knocked out tournament hosts Germany in the last eight, La Roja beat England 2-1 in the final and they are aiming to cement their status as Europe’s top team in the Nations League.

They needed penalties to progress from their quarter-final tie with the Netherlands after a remarkable 5-5 aggregate draw but their defence may have an easier time against France.
For all the star names at Deschamps’ disposal, Les Bleus remain a stuttering attacking force and four of their last 15 matches have ended 0-0.
They scored only three times in their first five games at the Euros – an Mbappe penalty and two opposition own goals – and lost 2-0 to Croatia in the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final.
Olise and Ousmane Dembele, who had a sensational season for PSG, scored in the return leg to take the tie to extra-time and penalties but Spain’s midfield strength means they should be capable of controlling the semi-final tempo.
Pedri, who missed the Euros wins over France and England due to a knee injury, has looked back to his imperious best at Barcelona this season.
His Barca teammate Gavi is another midfield option for De la Fuente, who has Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Champions League winner Fabian Ruiz as cover for the absent Rodri.
Before Spain’s home and away draws with the Netherlands in the last eight, they had won 13 of their previous 15 internationals in 90 minutes and they can advance to Sunday’s final in style.
