A man has been rushed to hospital with “serious injuries” after a van crashed into a pedestrian.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Bleasdale Street in Royton in the early hours of this morning (May 12) following reports of the smash.

People living nearby were greeted by emergency services as police swarmed the area, arresting one man in his 60s and another his 30s on suspicion of assault. A cordon remained in place overnight and was still up into the morning as forensics officers began to comb the scene for clues.

“During the night we saw flashing lights, we saw it through the bedroom window,” said one resident.

“It was about 4am. I didn’t hear any noises, just saw those lights.”

Forensics officers placed several evidence markers on the ground by a number of objects scattered on the road.

After photographing them, officers bagged up the items and took them away to the waiting police van.

The two men, one in his 60s and one in his 30s, who were arrested on suspicion of assault both remain in police custody.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At approximately 1.45am today (Monday, May 12 2025), we were called to reports of an RTC involving a van and a pedestrian on Bleasdale Street, in Royton.

“A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“A man in his 30s and a man in his 60s have been arrested on suspicion of assault and they remain in police custody for questioning.

“A cordon remains in place while enquiries are ongoing.”

Others arrived at the street to be greeted by the sight of police tape blocking off the road to traffic.

“We came in at about 6am and it was like that,” one eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News. “The sirens were here from about half three.”

Another resident said they often hear revellers from nearby pubs in the early hours, but didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary last night.
