Zoe Rae left Bali after two days for Dubai after how different it looks in reality compared to online
This Morning Ben Shephard was stunned into momentary silence after listening to Zoe Rae’s social media rant about her 48-hour trip to Bali.
The 28-year-old fitness influencer went viral after her video caused confusion when she stated that she left Bali for Dubai after only 48 hours as the reality wasn’t what she expected.
Zoe had intended to be in Indonesia for 10 days with her husband Danny to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. However, within hours of the couple arriving, Zoe stated that it was different to how it looked on Instagram.
Sat in her hotel room, she admitted: “Since landing in Bali, something for us wasn’t quite right. We came here with high expectations because we had seen on social media that everyone was having such a lovely time.
“Gorgeous places to eat and lovely beaches, and lovely gyms and coffee shops. But if you took a picture of the coffee shop and zoomed out, you would see what the reality was.”
She added: “I don’t think the reality of Bali is shown much at all, and I do think it is down to a lot of influencers posting the more luxury side of things.”
Zoe then went onto say that it wasn’t her first time travelling to Asia. She had spent five months before joining the army exploring Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong.
She continued: “I did a lot and spent time in these countries. But there is something very different about Bali.
“We got told Uluwatu where we are now is one of the best places to go, that’s why we came here. So if this is one of the better places, I’m not sure where the other places are like.”
The couple then decided to spend the rest of their trip in Dubai, which has led to a lot of unimpressed comments from viewers.
During Wednesday’s (16th July) instalment of This Morning, hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were joined by Alison Phillips and Camilla Tominey to discuss the latest news.
After Zoe’s clip aired, it finished on her statement about influencers and then panned back to the studio. Ben was rendered seemingly speechless at her final comment, with a shocked expression on his face.
Camilla went onto say it was the example of “first world problems” and added: “My luxury holiday isn’t quite as luxury as I expected. I mean, this is the thing. So, she’s gone to Dubai where everything is very confected and manifested, and sterile, and great for Instagram pics. But, probably not for cultural, sort of adventures.”
Alison agreed: “How interesting as well, as she said, when you looked at the coffee shop it looked great and then you zoomed out. Isn’t that life? When look at just that thing and then you zoom out and you see the rest.”
They then showed her video of Instagram vs. Reality, which saw one clip with tourists on the beach. Ben added: “That’s similar to Europe. If you go anywhere to those moments that they’ve got beautiful, iconic pictures, you’re usually queuing up to get to that.”
