TRNSMT U-turns sun cream policy after parents fume over ‘no aerosol’ rule

Fans are now allowed – and encouraged – to bring sun cream of any size to apply throughout the festival.

TRNSMT has changed its sun cream policy after parents of children attending the festival hit out at its ‘no aerosol’ rule.

As the first day of the festival got underway yesterday and as temperatures hit as high as 27C, a number of revellers had their sunblock removed from them at the gates of Glasgow Green. One concerned dad, whose 19-year-old daughter is attending the three-day event, slammed “irresponsible” organisers over the move.

Speaking to the Record, he said: “Security at TRNSMT are taking sun cream off people at the gate. My daughter took a small travel sized aerosol sun cream which was taken off her at the entrance.

“They were only being allowed in with small, liquid form bottles. They were on TV giving out free squirts of it to people as they entered, however my daughter said she never once saw anyone giving it away. I just think given the weather, it is irresponsible and common sense should prevail.

“I fully understand the issue of controlled containers at events however public safety should be their priority. I get the no controlled containers and no aerosol policy, however, in this weather common sense should prevail.”

Following feedback from ticket holders, organisers have since updated their guidance.

A festival spokesperson said: “In line with our prohibited items list, fans were previously permitted to bring small, travel-sized sunscreen into the festival. Following feedback and in response to the ongoing warm weather, we have updated this guidance.

“Fans are now allowed – and encouraged – to bring sun cream of any size to apply throughout the day. Free sun cream will continue to be available at our help and welfare points for anyone who needs it.”

Around 50,000 festival goers are expected to descend onto the festival in Glasgow city centre today. Yesterday, ticket holders enjoyed performances from The Script, Wet Leg, Schoolboy Q, Twin Atlantic and Jamie Webster.

With temperatures set to soar to a blistering 29C over the weekend, health bosses warned revellers to look after themselves and stay hydrated during the heatwave.

Director of public health at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Dr Emilia Crichton advised people to cover up to avoid sunburn and sunstroke throughout the event.

She said: “This weekend is looking like a great time to get outside for warmer weather. No matter what you’re doing, please enjoy the good weather safely by protecting yourself when in the sun, staying hydrated, and having common medicines to hand.

“We know tens of thousands of people will be heading to TRNSMT and we hope everyone has a fantastic time.

“We ask festival-goers to look after themselves and others so everyone can enjoy the event safely.”
