Daily Schmankerl: Bayern Munich playing the slow game with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku; Eintracht Frankfurt wants to keep Hugo Ekitiké; Rodrygo to discuss future with Real Madrid; Surprise suitor for Benjamin Šeško; and MORE!

Bayern Munich has Christopher Nkunku on its list, but is not in any rush to make a move for the Chelsea FC man:

⤵️ FC Bayern are still monitoring Christopher #Nkunku‘s situation and waiting for market opportunities. Nothing advanced. No offers. Nothing has changed. Further efforts depend on Bayern’s incoming and outgoing decisions in the transfer market.

At some point, Bayern Munich will have to make a move for an attacker but Nkunku’s main detriment is he is more effective centrally than outside. As of now, Bayern Munich seems to still favor get a player who is more astute at playing left-wing.

Bayern Munich has a lot of irons in the fire and ESPN compiled a few of them for us:

In addition to referencing the Woltemade situation, Sky Sports Deutschland has an update on Bayern Munich’s other interests. There have been new phone calls between sporting director Max Eberl and the agent of Liverpool winger Luis Díaz, who would cost around €70m-€80m. The Bavarians are still monitoring Xavi Simons’ situation at RB Leipzig — who want €80m — but there have been no new concrete talks and there is a similar situation with Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku. Chelsea’s Renato Veiga is of interest but Bayern can’t sign a centre-back until Kim Min-Jae is moved on. Finally, any package for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo will likely be too expensive for them.

Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window season has been silent since July 1st hit, but there are a lot of rumors swirling. Let’s talk through those, but let’s also discuss what could be a leadership void with the team as it heads into the new season. This is what we have on tap for this episode of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

  • Hermann Gerland has retired from coaching after a terrific career.
  • Is the void with leadership bigger than with players at left-wing, center-back, etc. at Bayern Munich? Will the team be ready for the rigors of the season after so many early setbacks?
  • The Luis Diaz saga continues. What should we think of the latest news and should Bayern Munich be willing to pay upwards of €80 million for the Liverpool attacker.
  • The latest on Nick Woltemade.
  • A high-level, non-spoiler review of Squid Game season three.

Eintracht Frankfurt wants to keep Hugo Ekitiké, but with Liverpool FC and Newcastle United lurking about, it could be tough:

Eintracht Frankfurt would like to keep Hugo #Ekitike, also to be well prepared for the Champions League.

However, Eintracht are expecting offers this month. Liverpool remain a concrete option. Newcastle have renewed their interest. Manchester United still there. Chelsea are currently unlikely due to the transfer of João Pedro. His price tag is €100m. #LFC #MUFC

How will the poker end?

Real Madrid and mercurial winger Rodrygo will reportedly meet this week to talk about his future:

Real Madrid and Rodrygo’s camp will discuss about future from next week.

Decision will be up to Rodrygo as Real Madrid are open to accept exit if the player decides to leave.

Rodrygo has not made Real Madrid starting XI at the Club World Cup for 5 consecutive games.

Bayern Munich’s offseason is hitting its stride as the club scrambles to fill holes in its roster without breaking its bank account. Let’s get into it, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:

  • Bayern had a plan for Nick Woltemade, but it’s out the window now and how much does the uncertainty surrounding Jamal Musiala’s injury affect the squad planning.
  • Breaking down the bizarre situation with Bayern Munich and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz — should the Bavarians continue to swing for the fences with high-priced players or…would a cost-efficient option with a lower risk be a better fit?
  • Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku to Bayern? He is affordable and could fill the void at the No. 10 spot…but can he play the way that Bayern Munich requires?

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško is on Al Hilal’s radar:

With Victor Osimhen set to join Galatasaray on a permanent deal, Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal are turning their attention towards RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, says The Sun. Sesko, 22, has been in talks with Arsenal, but the Gunners have failed to agree a fee with Leipzig and are ready to walk away from negotiations as they target a €70m move for Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres instead. In case Al Hilal can’t persuade Sesko to move, they are also tracking Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.

That would seem like an insane longshot, but Al Hilal did pull off a shocker of a move for AC Milan full-back Theo Hernández for a fee of €25m on a three-year contract.

Ibrahima Konaté has reportedly rejected a contract proposal from Liverpool FC and could be eyeing a move to Real Madrid:

Ibrahima Konaté has turned down Liverpool’s offer of a contract extension that would keep the centre-back at Anfield until 2030, according to Nicolò Schira, with the 26-year-old’s current deal expiring in the summer of 2026. Any concern about the situation will be added to by AS reporting that the France international is on Real Madrid’s radar with questions arising about Los Blancos’ centre-backs following the Club World Cup.

Bayern Munich was eliminated from the Club World Cup by Champions League titleholders Paris Saint-Germain in a match that will leave lasting effects on the club given the major injury sustained by Jamal Musiala.

Let’s get into it, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:

  • How can Bayern Munich replace Jamal Musiala for the next 4-5 months? Let’s look at the internal options, some external options, and why Max Eberl really might not make a big move.
  • Can Paul Wanner or Tom Bischof step up to fill the void?
  • Why left-wing really might still be the priority in the transfer market.
  • Are you worried about the center-back position?
  • How are you feeling about Bayern Munich after the Club World Cup? More confident? Less confident? About the same?
