Celtic hero Kyogo ‘set to finally end Rennes nightmare as striker in advanced talks to seal £10m move’

KYOGO FURUHASHI is edging closer to completing his Rennes exit.

The ex-Celtic frontman is on his way out of France after just six months following a nightmare stint in Ligue 1.

Kyogo, 30, left the Hoops to join the French side for £10million in January but only made one start for the club before the end of the season.

His first and only start came in his debut and he went on to play less than an hour of action for the remainder of the campaign in five cameo appearances off the bench.

He hasn’t played since April, but he could be set for a revival away from France and in more familiar surroundings.

Kyogo is reportedly closing in on a move back to the UK to join newly-promoted English Championship side Birmingham City.

The Japanese star has been linked with the Blues for a number of weeks after former Celtic coach and now Birmingham manager Chris Davies added the striker to his transfer shortlist.

They have since opened talks with Rennes over a potential deal and it now looks like they’re set to land their target in a big-money deal.

According to L’Equipe, both clubs are now in “advanced negotiations” and details about the fee have been revealed.

It’s suggested the St Andrew’s club have thrashed out a deal that could see Rennes recoup the £10m figure they paid for him in January.

It’s unclear at this stage what the initial fee will be but it’s believed with add-ons the deal will surpass eight figures.

Kyogo didn’t manage to score a single goal in his short and frustrating stint in the south of France.

Celtic star Kyogo’s wind-up antics revealed

He scored his last goal in Scotland against Ross County on January 11 when he netted two in a 4-1 away win in Dingwall.

He started the following game against Dundee and his departure was confirmed by Celtic after they booked their place in the Champions League play-off following their 1-0 win over Young Boys, which Kyogo started.

The 30-year-old scored 85 goals in 165 appearances for Celtic after Ange Postecoglou brought him to Scotland from Vissel Kobe in the J1 League for a fee of around £4.5m.
