The clock is ticking down to the next big Apple launch
If Apple maintains its usual cycle, we can expect the unveiling of the new iPhone 17 series in September. The tech giant has traditionally used this month to launch its flagship iPhone range for the better part of the last decade, and rumours suggest that 2025 will follow suit, reports The Express.
As we get closer to September, an increasing number of leaks are surfacing online, hinting at some design choices for the iPhone 17, even though the devices themselves may not be drastically different.
The most significant rumoured addition to the iPhone line-up is a fourth model, which will reportedly be sold alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. It’s suggested that Apple plans to phase out the standard ‘Plus’ iPhone, a staple since the iPhone 14 Plus.
Rumours indicate that the iPhone 17 Air will take its place, a super-slim iPhone with a single rear camera. Leaker Majin Bu suggests that the Air will be slightly larger than the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro but smaller than the 17 Pro Max.
These dummy models of the purported iPhone 17 series showcase Apple’s potential design for the phones, based on leaks. The iPhone 17, second from right, appears to have a design very similar to the iPhone 16, but all the other three models feature a new camera island design at the top that spans the back of the phones instead of being clustered in the corner.
This design also situates the flash and LIDAR scanners of the Pro models on the right hand side, providing the iPhone 17 Air with a unique visual identity compared to the single-camera iPhone 16e.
It’s possible that Apple is altering the design to offer a visual distinction that might encourage upgrades. If the leaks are correct, it will only feature one camera.
Although it’s not yet known exactly what colors the next iPhones will come in, it’s highly likely that there will be a new black color this time around. Leaker @MajinBuOfficial has also suggested two other colours including a pale lilac and a pale green.
