NAIRN, Scotland — Texas women’s golf All-American Farah O’Keefe came back from down four with five holes to play to secure her spot in The Women’s Amateur Championship final at the Nairn Golf Club on Saturday.
O’Keefe will compete against Paula Martin Sampedro on Sunday as a finalist for the 122ndWomen’s Amateur Championship. The 36 holes of match play will begin on Sunday at 2:30 a.m. CT.
Heading into the 14th hole against Tillie Claggett, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, who plays at Vanderbilt, O’Keefe found herself down four. O’Keefe made a birdie on hole 15 to cut that in half and made pars on 16 and 17 to square the match.
The match went to extra holes and on the 19th hole, O’Keefe made a birdie putt that ended up winning the match.
O’Keefe has been busy. Following the NCAA Championship she competed and finished T36 at the U.S. Women’s Open. After that competed in the Arnold Palmer Cup then traveled directly to Scotland for the Women’s Amateur. She played 36 holes of stroke play after which she was in 11th place in the field.
O’Keefe, who is currently ranked No. 8 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, then won five matches to get to the final. She will take on Paula Martin Sampedro, who plays collegiately at Stanford and is ranked No. 12.
