Saturday’s Betfred Super League predictions
Warrington Wolves lost last week’s Challenge Cup final at Wembley and they may struggle to bounce back in this tough trip to Headingley to face in-form Leeds.
Not much has gone right for the Wire, who were edged out by Hull KR 8-6 last Saturday to make it back-to-back cup final losses, while they start the second half of the league campaign in lowly eighth spot.
Injuries have taken the bite out of the Wolves, who have lost four of their five matches, and they face a fight to secure a playoff spot.
Leeds have no such troubles and they enter round 14 in third place with a four-point buffer to Wakefield in seventh. The top six will qualify for the playoffs and the Rhinos have built up a head of steam at the right time.
Brad Arthur’s men have won six of their last seven matches and they will fancy their chances of improving their poor recent record against Warrington, who won four of the last five meetings.
The Rhinos are warm favourites for victory but a home win by no more than 12 points looks the best bet.
Only two of the last five meetings have been settled by a score greater than that, while Warrington ran out 18-16 winners when these two met earlier this season.
Leeds can turn the tables, but they are unlikely to run away with things.
The same can’t be said for Wigan who are fancied to cover a 20-point handicap at Huddersfield.
It was 44-18 to the Warriors when the pair met earlier this term, and 48-6 to the champions when they last visited Huddersfield just over a year ago.
The Cherry & Whites have won 13 of their last 14 meetings with the Giants and they have been going through the gears in recent weeks, chalking up scores of 46, 48 and 36 points in victories over Salford, Catalans and Leigh.
The Giants have won just one of their 13 matches in this campaign and they have scored just 28 points across their last two home matches which were losses to Leigh and St Helens.
