Excited Wolves fans make Jorge Mendes point amid Matt Hobbs news at Molineux

Wolves are instigating a restructure at Molineux – and fans have been reacting to the news on social media.

Late on Tuesday evening, it was reported that Matt Hobbs’ sporting director role was set to be dissolved, and that Wolves were shifting to a more fluid recruitment structure.

The suggestion is that Matt Jackson will now take over the negotiations and deals Hobbs had been part of.

Wolves will also apparently now be leaning on Gestifute, Jorge Mendes and Valdir Cardoso more, with manager Vitor Pereira to have more of a say in transfers.

Cardoso was spotted at Compton earlier this year, and is Mendes’ right-hand man.

Wolves have had great success in the past working with Mendes and his agency, and seemingly, the plan now is to work more closely with him again, after veering away from him in recent times.

Hobbs looks set to depart, and fans have now been reacting to these changes on social media.

It will now be fascinating to see what Wolves do this summer.

At the moment, things are a bit up in the air, although seemingly the expectation is that Hobbs’ departure will soon be announced.

And while there is praise for Hobbs given some of the players he helped bring to the club, some are excited by the changes that are in the offing.

Mainly because it now appears Mendes will be having more of an influence on recruitment at Wolves this summer, working in tandem with Pereira.

@woolleybear86 said: “Feels like a positive move. Utilising Gestifute has benefitted the club before and has given us the best players the club has seen, certainly recent years. Has Hobbs been a success? Who knows, but trusting Vitor/manager more from a large pool of players seems a win to me.”

@ThePavFM said: “Hobbs responsible for GON. Nice guy. But time to go. Gestifute wins power struggle for more control. Hobbs falls on sword. If want to get back to Nuno days. Vitor needs more power in transfers I think. This might actually be pro active. Didn’t think (this) would happen!”

@JonathanKeelin3 added: “Great news get Mendes back in there those were our best times.”

@tylerpricey said: “I think it’s really interesting. I’m excited at the prospect of Mendes being pivotal again and seeing what we do with him involved and Vitor’s importance in transfers but I don’t think Hobbs was honking, some good signings but fell apart when Gary was offered that silly contract.”

Mendes and Gestifute have served Wolves well

A few years ago Wolves worked very closely with Mendes and Gestifute – and they were responsible for the club landing some great players.

A lot of Portuguese stars have graced the Molineux turf since the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2018, with Mendes facilitating deals for the likes of Joao Moutinho and Pedro Neto.

Of course, there have also been some deals that haven’t really worked out, such as Fabio Silva and Goncalo Guedes.

But Wolves arguably had their most successful period being back in the Premier League when they were working closely with Mendes and Gestifute with Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm.

Hopefully this restructure will now see Pereira enjoy similar success at Molineux.
