Leeds United’s search for new strikers continues with Daniel Farke keen to bring in more firepower at Elland Road, as The Whites look to build a squad capable of Premier League survival.
Plenty of forwards have been linked including Callum Wilson, Beto, Promise David, Jamie Vardy, Nikola Krstovic and many more. Last week, Leeds informed AZ Alkmaar they wouldn’t pay £25m for Troy Parrott.
Leeds need a player they can rely on to score goals without breaking the bank, given the need to spend on other areas of the squad. They may even need two strikers, with Mateo Joseph eyed by Strasbourg.
Daniel Farke is renowned for delving into German football for new signings, bringing in Ilia Gruev from Werder Bremen and Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Dusseldorf. Now, Leeds are in talks to sign Davie Selke.
Leeds approach Davie Selke over free transfer to Elland Road
A household name in German football, the 6ft 5in striker has just scored a huge 23 goals in 33 games for Hamburg as he helped the sleeping giant secure promotion and end an eight-year second-tier hiatus.
But Selke’s contract is due to expire at the end of the month and Hamburg have been unable to convince the journeyman striker to pen new terms. That has attracted interest from Germany and in England.
The Express say Leeds have made ‘direct contact’ to sign Selke with The Whites able to approach the star without having to agree a fee or request permission from Hamburg. On a free, he could save some cash.
Leeds United face stern competition for Davie Selke’s signature
Unfortunately for Leeds, they aren’t alone in attempting to convince Selke to join a seventh team after spells with Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen, Koln, Leipzig and Hertha Berlin. West Ham and Fulham are keen.

As are another RedBull club, the biggest in RedBull’s portfolio and one of Selke’s old teams – Leipzig. The report claims Leipzig are on pole to land Selke and re-sign the striker on a free after his exit in 2017.
It’s claimed if Leeds are to stand a chance of landing Selke, they need Leipzig to choose against a move for Selke. But Leeds are certainly in the running and Selke may fancy an adventure outside of Germany.
