Leeds United are preparing to kick off the summer transfer window with a bang.
The Whites earned promotion from the Championship this season and now have huge amounts of work to do in the coming weeks and months.
This comes as Daniel Farke looks to prepare his side for Premier League action, which has seen six of the last six promoted sides face instant relegation.
In an attempt to build a squad ready to stay in the top division, the signing of a top midfielder could be the perfect way to kickstart the window.
Leeds United hold talks over midfielder signing
There is no doubt that a number of additions will be required at Elland Road to help create a squad ready for elite footballing action.
This won’t be easy after the losses of the likes of Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell, who have departed at the end of their loan spells.
It is the latter who could be replaced first in LS11 as Farke looks to enhance his midfield with Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev likely to still be available.
This has now seen Austrian news outlet Krone Zeitung report (26 May) that Sturm Graz are expecting Otar Kiteishvili to depart in a “shocking” move after winning the title this season.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a move abroad and is said to want to seize the opportunity to “move to a top league”.
Stat (Austrian Bundesliga 24/25) | Otar Kiteishvili |
Appearances | 32 |
Goals | 12 |
Assists | 3 |
This has seen discussions begin with Leeds and other newly promoted sides, Burnley and Sunderland kick-start ahead of the summer window opening.
Given that the Georgia international only signed a new contract in January, the Austrian outfit sees losing the midfielder as “a bitter blow”.
Leeds United to begin Kiteishvili transfer talks
There is no doubt that, as it stands, the Whites have quite a lack of midfield reinforcements ahead of what is going to be a busy season.
Injuries are bound to take hold at some stage, which would leave the options of just Tanaka and Gruev as a potential risk.
Although Ethan Ampadu can feature in the midfield, utilising him elsewhere is also a positive option for Farke, which could be solved by adding central players to his side.
This could see Kiteishvili represent a positive option after such a positive season at the Austrian Bundesliga champions.
