Rupert Friend Joins ‘Photo Booth’ Opposite Lily James and Raffey Cassidy

Rupert Friend is ready to strike a pose opposite Lily James and Raffey Cassidy in Photo Booth.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Spencer and Lloyd Harvey, a pair of sibling filmmakers and fine art photographers. Described as an emotional thriller, the film casts James as Jean, a renowned performance artist at the height of her career who has always chosen ambition over family. After another devastating setback in her struggle to have a child with artist husband Ben, played by Friend, their carefully curated life and marriage start to crumble. Ben confesses to a booze-induced affair with Millie, Cassidy’s character, who winds up pregnant. Jean makes a bold move and invites Millie into their home.

Filming is expected to start in October in Australia and London. Cathy Konrad and her Tree Line Films are producing with James and Gala Gordon’s Parodos Productions, Australian-based Carver Films, Sarah Shaw and Anna McLeish. HanWay films and UTA Independent Film Group are handling sales during the Cannes Film Festival this week.

Photo Booth is the story we needed to tell, one deeply rooted in the discussion of legacy and the choices that define us. As siblings and filmmakers, we’ve always been drawn to emotionally complex, character-driven stories that sit at the intersection of self-expression and identity,” the filmmakers explained in a joint statement. “This film is deeply personal, and having the incredible Lily James as our fearless Jean – we know will be electric. We can’t wait for the world to see what she does.”

Added HanWay Films CEO Gabrielle Stewart: “Photo Booth is a total page turner where intimate relationships are laid bare with razor-sharp dialogue. Rupert Friend is a fantastic addition to the cast as a sparring partner for Lily James, in this tense three-hander. The brilliant Cathy Konrad is producing along with Lily James and Gala Gordon and this award-winning screenplay is already garnering a lot of attention as we enter Cannes.”

Friend is due back at the Palais this weekend for the world premiere of Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme. He also next stars opposite Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World Rebirth, Michel Franco’s Dreams and Lucio Castro’s After His Death. He’s repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Imprint and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.

The Harveys are repped by UTA and newly-launched SEL Media Group.
