BBC Radio 2’s Rylan Clark had described himself as ‘very single,’ but a recent conversation with radio colleague Zoë Ball suggests that situation may have changed
Something has changed in Rylan Clark’s life, and Zoë Ball seems to have been the first to have spotted it. As the pair handed over between their respective BBC Radio 2 shows, Zoë said she had detected a “twinkle” in her radio colleague’s eye.
Together with Rylan’s revelation that he has “come off the (dating) apps” it suggested that there might be someone new in the 36-year-old broadcaster’s life.
“I’m not on the apps no more,” he told Zoë. “I’ve come off all the apps and I’m alright.”
Zoë responded: “You’ve got a twinkle in your. I know you always have a twinkle in your eye, but that’s a particularly big one,” prompting Rylan to quip “I think it’s a stye.”
Rylan had a particularly tough time after splitting with husband Dan Neal in 2021. He said: “My body completely shut down. I wouldn’t eat.
“I went through a stage where I couldn’t even talk, which for some people might be quite handy. My speech was just slurred. My mum thought I was having a stroke. My body just went. I went down to nine stone and I am 6’4”.
After some shirtless dancing in the rain at Scott Mills’s wedding last Summer, Rylan may have found love again.
For a while there had been suggestions that he might be in a relationship with TV partner Rob Rinder, but he put these rumours firmly to bed during an appearance on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast.
He joked: “I find it funny because I adore him, but we are like a married couple; we row all the time and we don’t have sex.”
Rylan’s relationship status isn’t entirely clear. In January, he complained that he was finding it hard to meet anyone, saying:”I don’t know where they are! I smell nice, I try my hardest…”
He added that he was financially solvent, and ought to have been a good catch: “I’ve got a couple of quid, what is wrong with me?” he said, speculating: “Maybe they’re frightened of the teeth!”
Former X Factor contestant Rylan had also previously complained about celebrity dating app Raya, saying he was too often matched with people in other countries. While he’s pretty well off, he explained, it’s not rich enough to own a private plane.
Another issue has been Rylan’s fear that someone might be trying to get close to him just for a “kiss and tell” newspaper story. The radio star explained: “One person I was dating was phoning the press. You have to work out if people want to date you or Rylan. I don’t need someone who works in the industry – they could work for Sainsbury’s – but I need an equal.”
