ITV News’ Ellie Pitt has the latest, as sources suggest impacts of the cyberattack faced by The Co-op have worsened
The Co-op‘s ordering system is down and warehouse staff have been sent home amid a worsening cyberattack, ITV News understands.
It comes after the company apologised on Friday, revealing hackers had accessed the personal data of members, including names and contact details.
Multiple sources have confirmed more of the Co-op’s IT network went down overnight, including the ordering system – but it is not clear whether this is the result of hackers or a measure taken by the company itself.
A former Co-op employee with connections still in the business told ITV News the cyberattack is impacting avaliability of stock in Co-op stores.
Several million historic membership emails and login details have been leaked to the dark web, the source added.
ITV News understands The Co-op has now called in an external incident response company.
The retail firm previously said it is experiencing “sustained malicious attempts” to access its systems, having already shut off parts of its IT systems earlier this week.
Co-op told ITV News they were unable to provide further comments on the cyberattack on Saturday.
In an earlier statement sent to members on Saturday, CEO of The Co-operative Group Shirine Khoury-Haq said: “Those who have been attacking our Co-op and our member systems were able to access a limited amount of member data, which included name, date of birth and contact details, but they have not been able to access any members’ financial information.
“Our amazing colleagues are doing everything they can to continue to deliver the service you would expect from us and I am grateful to them, and to our member-owners for your continued support.”

Marks & Spencer and Harrods have also been struck by hackers, after ransomware left M&S unable to process online orders since last Friday, and left loyalty cards not working.
The National Crime Agency said it is investigating the attacks individually but are “mindful they may be linked”.
They should serve as a “wake up call” for businesses, the agency added.
