Transfer insider has made it clear who Wrexham’s first summer signing could be after securing promotion

Wrexham have secured promotion from League One and already we might know exactly who their first Championship signing will be.

On Saturday, Wrexham were promoted from League One. it’s a third-straight promotion for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s side as they write themselves into the history books once again.

The game against Charlton Athletic proved easy work in the end as two goals from Sam Smith and one from Ollie Rathbone secured a 3-0 Wrexham win against Charlton, who’ll now have to settle for the play-offs.

Championship football will prove another huge challenge for Phil Parkinson and his team, but there’s nothing that suggests they can’t take on the second tier with as much umph and success as they’ve taken on League One.

Jamie Vardy keeps on being linked with Wrexham. On Thursday, Vardy announced that he’s leaving Leicester City at the end of this season and it prompted a wave of responses, with many saying that Vardy to the Racecourse feels like an inevitability.

But the 38-year-old Vardy is said to be weighing up offers from the MLS and it’s understood that he’d only want to play for a team outside of England, given his allegiance to the Foxes. That’s not what talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook says, though.

On Friday he reported that Vardy to Wrexham can’t be ruled out, especially if the club wins promotion. TalkSPORT posted on X below…

Wrexham need Jamie Vardy-type quality, but not Jamie Vardy

In the build up to the Charlton game Wrexham fans made it clear they don’t want Vardy to sign for the club this summer.

Whilst a good player, and whilst someone with the kind of quality Wrexham would need in the Championship, fans are keen for the club to move away from signing journeymen, and to start signing more young and exciting players.

On top of that, Vardy would surely command a huge wage, and Wrexham need to be really smart with their spending this summer if they’re to bolster all necessary areas.

Vardy will no doubt have offers from across the globe and he might well fancy the Wrexham challenge. But the Dragons could arguably do better.
