Stone Cold Confirms Retirement Ahead of WWE WrestleMania 41 amid Return Rumors

WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin suggested Friday that he has no intention of wrestling another match.

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Austin said that while the “competitive side” of him still thinks at times that he has something left to give, he has “kind of moved on down the road.”

Austin added: “Don’t get me wrong, I can still whoop some ass, but I’m not looking to get back in the ring at any time in the future because these young cats need something to shoot for. Stone Cold don’t need to beat nobody’s ass anymore.”

After losing to The Rock at WrestleMania 19 in 2003, Austin retired from in-ring competition due to mounting injuries.

It seemed as though The Texas Rattlesnake would remain retired for good, but he shocked the wrestling world three years ago by coming out of retirement after nearly two decades.

At the age of 57, Austin faced Kevin Owens in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 and defeated him, much to the delight of the fans in his home state of Texas.

There has often been speculation since then about Austin potentially having a match, but it hasn’t come to fruition.

Last year, there was some thought Austin would get involved in the main event of WrestleMania 40, which saw Cody Rhodes beat Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship. Several other legends showed up, including The Rock, The Undertaker and John Cena, but Austin was not among them.

Last year, Austin told Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely that he had discussions with WWE and was “close” to appearing at WrestleMania 40, but he added, “My wife and I had some things going on that I didn’t need to go to Philly at that time.”

This year, Austin is present in the WrestleMania 41 host city of Las Vegas, though, in order to make some appearances.

Rhodes is set to face Cena in the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 41 on Sunday, and there is seemingly a strong chance that The Rock will interfere on Cena’s behalf.

If that happens, Austin showing up to neutralize The Rock would be the ideal scenario for fans since Austin vs. The Rock is one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history, as they faced each other three times at WrestleMania.

While it doesn’t sound like the 60-year-old Austin has any plans to have another match, he still looks to be in excellent shape and it may not be outside the realm of possibility for him to have at least some physical involvement on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
